Data centre & cloud licensing
Operators hosting government workloads are licensed against sovereignty, resilience and security criteria.

- Directive
- DIR 04
Any operator that hosts government data or workloads — in a data centre, a private cloud or a managed hosting arrangement — must hold a licence issued by NITA.
Licensing conditions cover data residency, minimum tiering by workload criticality, continuity and recovery testing, physical and logical access control, and audit rights.
Licensed operators are re-assessed annually and must evidence continuity tests carried out during the licence period.
How it works

Apply
Submit facility documentation, tiering evidence and security certifications.
- Step 2
Inspect
NITA carries out a site inspection and reviews continuity arrangements.
- Step 3
Licence
A licence is issued for the classes of workload the facility may host.
- Step 4
Assure
Annual re-assessment with evidence of continuity and recovery testing.
