Questions we are asked most often.
If your question isn't answered here, the help centre goes deeper and the ticket desk will pick up anything else.
What does NITA actually regulate?
NITA regulates the supply and use of information technology across Ghana's public sector — accreditation of providers, certification of professionals, licensing of hosting operators, the .gov.gh namespace, and the standards that government platforms must meet.
Is accreditation mandatory to sell IT services to government?
Yes. Procuring entities are required to contract only accredited providers for IT goods and services, and to verify the certificate against the register before award.
How is NITA different from the Ministry?
The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations sets policy. NITA is the implementing and regulatory agency established under Act 771, operating infrastructure and enforcing standards.
Where can I read the laws NITA operates under?
Act 771, Act 772 and Act 843 are published in full on the legislation page, together with the regulations and directives issued under them.
How do I make a Right to Information request?
Submit your request in writing to the Information Officer using the contact details on the contact page. NITA's RTI manual sets out the process, timelines and any applicable fees.
Does NITA handle personal data complaints?
Complaints about the handling of personal data are directed to the Data Protection Commission. NITA can assist where the complaint concerns a government platform it operates.
