The National Information Technology Agency (NITA), in partnership with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), held a capacity-building workshop for selected media practitioners in the Greater Accra Region on Tuesday, 14 November 2023. The workshop engaged the media on the role of NITA in the digital ecosystem and its collaborations with sister agencies under the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation.

Over seventy participants attended, including morning show hosts and prominent journalists, as well as representatives from the parent ministry and invited agencies such as the National Communications Authority (NCA), Ghana Post, the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet), the Postal and Courier Services Regulatory Commission (PCSRC) and the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (AITI-KACE).

In his opening remarks, the Director-General of NITA, Mr. Richard Okyere-Fosu, emphasised the importance of the media and the participating agencies in shaping public understanding of NITA's core mandate as the IT arm of Government and the regulator within the sector.

A questions and answers session closed the programme, in which NITA and its sister agencies took turns addressing questions from media practitioners on artificial intelligence, data centres, community digitisation and related topics.

Derya Bischoff, Advisor for the Pan-African e-Commerce Initiative at GIZ Ghana, congratulated the organising team and resource persons on an insightful workshop, indicated GIZ's interest in future engagements of a similar nature, and encouraged participants to share the firsthand knowledge acquired with their audiences.

NITA is the Government of Ghana agency established by an Act of Parliament (Act 771) with the primary objective of regulating the provision of information and communications technology, ensuring the provision of quality ICT, promoting standards of efficiency and ensuring high quality of service.
